The Italian sausage is home made, and the sauces are 'grandma's recipes' from the old country. The food started on Taylor Street in the late 1940's/early 1950's. In 1956, the grandson Mike opened Armands near Grand & Harlem in Elmwood Park. It thrived there for decades. Mike is deceased, but his daughter and son run the enterprise now, ensuring the same recipes and quality. The flagship restaurant is now in Elmhurst with another full service restaurant in Arlington Heights. They also have Armands Express locations in Naperville, Elmwood Park and a couple of Chicago locations. The pizza is terrific, and the long history of the place would be great to feature on a Chicago's Best episode.
