Photos: 2011 World Press Photo Pictures of the Year
The prize-winning entries of the 55th World Press Photo Contest for 2011, the world's largest annual press photography contest, were announced on Friday. The contest draws entries by professional press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers from across the world, with 5,247 photographers from 124 countries participating this year with 101,254 pictures submitted for judging.
