CLTV Reporter and Anchor, Gaynor Hall, shares thoughts on her mini-series, Deadly Lessons, on Garrard McClendon Live. Gaynor explores the violence in Englewood by speaking directly with residents from the southside community. Ceasefire activist, Tio Hardeman, joins the conversation. Series airs on Friday, November 28th and Saturday, November 29th.

What are your thoughts on ending violence in Englewood?

Racism is Over: K-O'd by Obama in '08

November 29, 2008 4:05 PM CST

mary mitchell.jpgWill Sun Times columnist, Mary Mitchell, agree with Garrard that racism is extinct?

Garrard says it's official. Racism has left the shores of the United States. There are no racists here anymore. Everyone is free and we have no need to tell ethnic jokes...well we can tell them now without feeling fearful, inhibited, and racist. Well, that kind of defeats the purpose.

When you leave your house today, pay close attention - taking note that hate groups have disbanded, institutional racism is passe', and people are getting hired today based on their qualifications, not their skin color. We are free today - No Chinese internment camps, no holocaust, no slavery, no native American eradication. We are free because Garrard says so, ...and because Obama is president - elect. Mary Mitchell joins me later for a conversation on racism and it's disappearance.

What Are Your Favorite Holiday Foods?

November 26, 2008 1:50 PM CST

Are you hungry? What are your favorite holiday foods? I love a slow cooked, glazed ham, with macaroni and cheese, turkey and dressing! Diets are totally forgotten when holiday season kicks in and I want to know, what are your favorites?

Governor Ryan Begs Your Pardon...

November 25, 2008 2:10 PM CST

governor ryan.jpgShould Dick Durbin write the letter to George Bush, to pardon former Governor George Ryan? No. I think that Governor Ryan should spend a little bit more time in federal prison for the scandalous crimes perpetrated against everyday people. Sixteen counts of racketeering conspiracy, fraud, and lying under oath...well, I do feel for his family, however, individuals with less offensive crimes are doing far more time.

In the spirit of Bush leaving, and the holidays approaching, I have a soft heart. But Dick Durbin feels more for Ryan than I do. Federal prison can't be all bad...it's a great place to reflect and write a book. If no pardon is in sight for George Ryan, I'll buy the book after he's released.

The Savage Truth on the Bailout!

November 24, 2008 4:31 PM CST

terry savage.jpgWhere should the $750 billion go towards? Should it go to all banks or just the struggling ones with the astronomical interest rates? Car manufacturers getting $25 billion each? Come on! Terry Savage joins Garrard McClendon Live on how America should spend and invest the stimulus package funding?

What should we do with a TRILLION DOLLARS?

What's Chicago's Priority?

Olympic Bid

Should we concentrate on a 2016 Olympics with crime, job loss, and skyrocketing bills? Chicago is no place for an Olympic Games, especially with the crisis situations occurring daily in our streets.

Mayor Daley should focus on curing the ills within the city instead of hustling the Olympic committee for 2016. Concentrate on Chicago Public School, the Chicago Police Department, neighborhood crime, and JOBS! We have more than enough drama in the city. No Olympics andno casinos. They just don't belong in Chicago.

Daley, let Rio have the games...

Could Tammy Duckworth be the Next Senator?

November 20, 2008 8:46 AM CST

B.J. Parker, a frequent blogger on CLTV, narrows the senator pick down to Tammy Duckworth, the Black Hawk pilot, and Jesse Jackson, Jr. - the Congressman. I'm leaning towards Jesse, but Tammy will be on my show to share her thoughts on a monumental time for Illinois politics.

Who should Blagojevich pick?

eBay stuff or sell (donate) your blood?

November 19, 2008 2:33 PM CST

ebay logo.gifblood donation.jpg

Times are tough and I'm selling everything that I don't use around my house...I have extra printers, phones, clothes, paper, exercise equipment, etc...and I'm selling all of it. Make money, money, make, money, money, money!

eBay is how you can get rid of all of your junk (unused merchandise), and get paid.

Blood banks are paying too! Alcohol rub, Butterfly needle, a little pinch, and 3 minutes later - they have a bag filled with blood, and you have gas money, or at least enough for a sandwich. Sell it all! You only need food, shelter, and clothing - well maybe a computer to read my blog entries. Don't sell your computer; I want to stay in touch with you.

What are you selling to make money?

A Gay-Lesbian High School? No Way!

November 18, 2008 3:16 PM CST

UPDATE from the Chicago Tribune:

The team behind a plan to open Chicago's first public high school aimed at gay and lesbian students pulled the plug Tuesday, faced with criticism from Mayor Richard Daley and some ministers and an internal split about whether a revamped version "watered down" the vision

Are Imports Better Than American Cars?

November 18, 2008 2:29 PM CST

infinity g.jpgYes, Yes, and Yes! You know those Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans are superior...just change the oil, the tires, and get a few car washes and they run forever. I have a Honda Odyssey and despite the challenges that I have had with it, I'm satisfied.

Could the Big 3 be in trouble due to poor design, manufactiring, and inspiration? Other than a CTS, I can't see spending $30 or $40 K on a domestic. Should we honor uninspired design and engineering (ooohh, a nasty oxymoron) with a bail out? No.

The Big 3 should merge with HTN (see first sentence) and call it a day. I would love to drive a Chevy Accord, a Toyota Escalade, a Ford Altima, or the dream car, a Lincoln Lexus L846. Just dreamin...

What do I do when I lose my job or suffer a lay-off? With massive job losses marking signs of a failing economy, we may have to re-invent ourselve, get creative, and look within.

CitiGroup is looking down the barrel of 53,000 job cuts very soon. What will these people do?Karyn Pettigrew, business and professional mentor, author, motiovational speaker, teacher and owner of KPConsulting, will inpire by giving practical advice to our lives. Are you out of work? What is your creative plan to make ends meet?

Senator Blagojevich or Senator Michelle Obama?

November 17, 2008 12:54 PM CST

blagojevich.jpgmichelle-obama speaking.jpg

Rod Blagojevich just might appoint himself. This would be a grave mistake for the governor and his political career would be totally in the tank. Emil Jones and the rest of the potentials would also place a conversational moratorium on speaking to Blagojevich. It is in the governor's best interest to go with Emil Jones or the voice of James Earl Jones (Danny Davis).

Who would Barack Obama choose if the choice was his? Mr. Jones!

Or the sleeper, the helpmate, Mrs. Michelle Obama. If Blagojevich chooses Michelle, they wouldn't have to change all of the stationery - white-out  brushed over Barack's name - just add Michelle and the Senator Obama moniker never changes. First Lady and Senator from the State of Illinois - Michelle Obama.

Unsolved Mysteries

The Jennifer Hudson Family Tragedy - The Brian Murdock / Quentin Buckner Tragedy - The Trevor Boehm Tragedy

Will these mysteries be solved? What is happening to our young people?

Who will be the next senator from Illinois?

November 14, 2008 3:20 PM CST

Courtesy: Congressional Archives

jesse jackson jr.jpgRod Blagojevich has a big decision to make. He has the task of choosing the next Senator from the state of Illinois. Will it be Jackson, Jones, Madigan, Duckworth, Schakowsky, or Guitierrez? Danny Davis? Could it be a sleeper...someone who is not so obvious?

My pick for senator would be Jesse Jackson, Jr.  It's an obvious pick, but the individual is the closest candidate we can cartridge in, without cloning. With all respect to the other candidates, Congressman 3J, is an Obama supporter, has worked with him on several initiatives, is similar in age, although a bit younger than Obama (by 3 and a half years), and said on GML that "I wouldn't say no to the invitation Garrard."

Who is your pick?

CTA: Give Riders a Break, Man...

November 13, 2008 12:40 PM CST

Courtesy: RedEye

kyra kyles 2.jpgA question for RedEye columnist Kyra Kyles: should the CTA bail out customers? A fare increase is absurd and I am going to protest for everyone who cannot afford to pay for the increase. Kyra joins me on GML. See CLTV story on CTA Fare Increase.

Fares are going to $2.25 - That's high! Monthly passes with increase from $75 to $90. This can be devastating on a fixed income or someone with minimum wage income. 630 workers being layed off. If lay-offs are that huge, give riders a break. CTA: I'm protesting the increase on Garrard McClendon Live.
