Two East Coast deaths may be related to contaminated ground beef.
A voluntary recall is in effect for 545,699 pounds of ground beef. The beef was produced by Fairbank Farms between September 14 and September 16 and may be contaminated with an E. coli strain.
The recall is for distribution centers in eight East Coast states, but the company says some retailers may have sent the beef to other states. Retail outlets that received the beef include: ACME, BJ's, Ford Brothers, Giant Food Stores, Price Chopper, Shaw's, and Trader Joe's.
A code on the beef's packaging can identify whether it is apart of the recall. The code to look for is "EST 492".
