A Marine Sergeant from Joliet was shot to death by a California sheriff's deputy.

Manuel Loggins, 31, was assigned to Camp Pendleton, where he lived with his wife and two daughters. Police say Loggins drove his SUV at a high speed through a gate near San Clemente High School early Tuesday morning.

Police say Loggins then got out of the car and started to walk away, ignoring a deputy sheriff's commands to stop. When Loggins turned around, the deputy felt threatened and fired, killing him.

Loggins' daughters, who are 9 and 14 years old, were sitting in the SUV at the time.

The incident is still under investigation.
