After a sensational freshman season, Spivey (25 goals, 12 assists) returns as the area's most dominant player on offense. The All-Metro standout is creative and tenacious, and has the ability to score or set up teammates. (Baltimore Sun photo by Gene Sweeney Jr. / September 18, 2008) |
Ellie Axenfeld Glenelg, midfield, senior
A four-year starter and two-year captain, Axenfeld brings intensity, leadership and consistently sound two-way play in the middle. The versatile standout (three goals, 10 assists last year) has a chance to close out her career with four state titles.
Danielle DeLisle Loch Raven, goalie, senior
Talk about stingy. DeLisle allowed only four goals in going 10-4-2 last season. Look for the same textbook play from the four-year starter, who organizes the defense, makes big saves, distributes the ball and has fine foot skills.
Kirsten Frank
Archbishop Spalding, defense, senior
The All-Metro sweeper was the centerpiece of a defense that posted 14 shutouts last year as the Cavaliers won the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title. The four-year starter and two-year captain has the poise and tenacity to keep things calm in back.
Peyton Johnson Catonsville, midfield, senior
After missing most of last year with a broken ankle, Johnson returns this season wearing No. 12 on her back instead of No. 11. But with her uncanny field sense and precise first touch, opposing teams will have no problem finding her as she dominates the middle of the field.
Sarah Lindler Mercy, defense, senior
A four-year starter at left fullback, Lindler is quick to the ball as the leader in back for the upstart Magic. In earning Baltimore City Player of the Year honors last season, Lindler also used her smart and aggressive play to make timely overlap runs.
Mel Lookingland John Carroll, forward, senior
With sound game sense, a good first touch and a quick release, Look-ingland (12 goals, eight assists) is a challenge for opposing defenses. The four-year varsity player took a team-high 103 shots in 17 games last year.
Francisca Okoko Arundel, forward-midfield, senior
The All-Metro standout combines speed, size and skills to make her one of the area's most difficult marks. Relentless in getting to the goal, Okoko (14 goals and eight assists last season) showed a knack for producing in the clutch.
Kelsey Ports Eastern Tech, defense, senior
After graduating a good chunk of their offense, the Class 2A runner-up Mavericks will look to win games on defense. Ports brings confidence, gifted ball skills and leadership in her fourth season at sweeper.
Kelsey Reiff Reservoir, forward, senior
Relentless to the ball and decisive with it, Reiff is one of the area's top finishers. Her ability to score from anywhere - using either foot - sets her apart. She notched a Howard County-high 20 goals and added five assists as a junior.
Ashley Spivey McDonogh, forward, sophomore
After a sensational freshman season, Spivey (25 goals, 12 assists) returns as the area's most dominant player on offense. The All-Metro standout is creative and tenacious, and has the ability to score or set up teammates.
