1. Elizabeth Warren's cheekbones

The contretemps over whether Elizabeth Warren is really an American Indian has gone from the ridiculous to the ridiculous. Warren is the blond, blue-eyed, ultra-liberal Harvard law professor running for Republican Sen. Scott Brown's seat in Massachusetts. Despite a complete lack of evidence outside of "family lore" and "high cheekbones," she listed herself as a "minority" professor in a law faculty directory for some years. Documentation showing Warren to be 1/32 Cherokee — that is, having a Cherokee great-great-great-grandfather — turned out not to exist.

3. President, to president, to president

"You will be our president when you read this note," George Herbert Walker Bush wrote to Bill Clinton, the man who defeated him in the 1992 campaign, denying Bush the provisional vindication that reelection provides until history has its chance to judge from a distance. Nonetheless, in Oval Office tradition, Bush left a note for Clinton to read on taking office, and it echoed the message of transitions past, even between bitter political rivals: "I am rooting hard for you."

9. 'Men in Black 3' a blast from the past, critics say

24 Frames
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back to save the world in "Men in Black 3," now with Josh Brolin. This installment is all about time travel — both in terms of plot and in recapturing the quirky fun of the original 1997 film. For many critics, the...

13. Analysis: Donald Trump enlivens a sleepy campaign season

Every presidential campaign has its sideshows, diversions that fill the dead time between primaries, conventions and other meaningful events. Like nature, the political press corps abhors a vacuum.

15. 'We still have to fight. So for God's sake, fight.'

The greatest commencement address ever is now more than three decades old. And it's safe to say it will never be surpassed or even equaled. It belongs to the ages.

17. Paul Greenberg: Romney rejection of dirty camapaign ad was right way, American way

Sometimes turning points in presidential campaigns are scarcely noted at the time. Because they're events that didn't happen, a low road not taken, a tactic not employed, a decisive mistake not made. Like last week's non-event in Mitt Romney's...

23. Not so fast on FISA

Four years ago Congress authorized the electronic surveillance of suspected terrorists and foreign agents located outside the United States, with provisions that supporters said would adequately protect the privacy of Americans. On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee voted to extend those provisions, which expire at the end of the year, until 2017, and the chairman and vice chairman of the committee urged "quick action by the Senate and House to enact this extension."
