  1. Chicago's youth fighting food deserts

Chicago is a city known for its food, but alarmingly 64 out of the 98 communities are in food deserts. A community becomes a food desert when fresh produce isn’t available in a one mile radius, but processed foods are around the corner and thus easily obtainable. Typically food deserts are located in lower income minority neighborhoods throughout the United States and the consequences are significant. Americans without access to fresh produce are often malnourished. They are more likely to suffer from diabetes type II, obesity, cancer, coronary heart disease and stroke than other Americans.

  3. Exploring Your Options with Egg Freezing

With the fast-paced lifestyles and time-consuming jobs that many women are committed to these days, it seems that more and more women are trying to have children only to find out that it is "too late." Recent advances in medicine now allow women the potential opportunity to delay their pregnancy until a more opportune time (“the right time”). The "right time" may mean the right partner, the right place in the right career that allows for the investment of more time to a family, or even the right state of health. When the “right time” comes, regardless of the intense desire to have a baby, there is unfortunately no guarantee that a woman will be able to have a genetic child.

  7. Imerman Angels

Jonny Imerman is an angel. As a two-time cancer survivor, his own story became his inspiration to help others.  After beating testicular cancer at age 26 and being re-diagnosed at age 28, Jonny Imerman wanted to give back.  He spent countless hours at the cancer center in Annapolis, Michigan giving advice and listening to cancer patients going through exactly what he did. Jonny thought every cancer patient could use an angel to be with them through their battle and started Imerman Angels, a one-on-one cancer support network connecting cancer survivors with cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. Imerman Angels matches a person touched by cancer with someone who has fought and survived the same type of cancer.
